It’s been a busy week for DAW and Plug-in companies with some big updates announced…
First off, Steinberg have today announced Cubase 11 with many updates across all three versions. Key features include Advanced Audio Export for stems and more (Pro only), an update for Sampler (all versions), Scale Assistant (all versions) and Frequency 2 – a new, dynamic EQ.
The full list of new features is below – full details and purchase & upgrade options at https://new.steinberg.net/cubase/new-features/
Ableton Live 11
Announced yesterday but with a launch date of Q1 in 2021, Live 11 is available for pre-order at https://www.ableton.com/en/live/ – there is a 20% discount if you purchase Live 10 with a free upgrade to Live 11 when it’s released. There are also early upgrade offers for existing owners.
New features include comping lanes for multiple takes on the same track, MPE compatibility plus new devices/fx including Hybrid Reverb, Spectral Resonator, Spectral Time, PitchLoop89 and some instruments created in conjunction with Spitfire Audio.
Another big feature is Tempo Follow. Aimed at live band performances – you can get Live to follow your drummer etc, rather than the other way round. That feature alone makes Live 11something to look forward to.
Further updates to come.

Cherry Audio Launch CA2600 ARP Clone Plugin
Hot on the heels of their superb DCO-106 synth, Cherry Audio have launched another emulation – this time it’s the turn of the ARP 2600 synthesizer to get the Cherry Audio treament.
Currently on offer for just £18.95 at Plugin Boutique, I’ve had a lot of fun playing with this VST.
Check out Mitchell from Cherry Audio’s brilliant video showing how to recreate Pete Townsend’s ARP 2600 patch as a guitar insert for The Who’s iconic “Who Are You?” track, using the CA2600:
