A quick update this week, I’ve been busy messing with 2 fantastic new upgrades; namely Reason 11 and Ultra Analog VA-3.
Propellerheads are now Reason Studios and Reason is now on version 11.
The main feature I was interested in was being able to use the Reason Rack as a standalone Plug-In in my main DAW (Cubase). It works a treat and Rewire is not needed. I can now have the Instruments and Effects from Reason with the editing comfort-zone of Cubase.
I tested and I could also run Reason 10 through Rewire alongside Reason 11 Racks!
Available in 3 flavours, Reason Suite is the top, all-inclusive version – a vast collection of instruments, effects and other music making tools – more than 70 devices in total, including the newly released Scenic Hybrid Instrument along with top-selling Reason Studios devices including Complex-1 Modular Synth, Umpf Club Drums, Umpf Retro Beats, Reason Electric Bass, Reason Drum Kits, Processed Pianos, Layers Wave Edition, Layers, Parsec Spectral Synthesizer, Radical Keys, Polar Dual Pitch Shifter, Rotor Rotary Speaker, PolyStep Sequencer, Quad Note Generator, and Drum Sequencer.
New Reason 11 devices include:
Quartet Chorus Ensemble: Spice up your sound with four flavors of chorus and ensemble effects. From classic vintage chorus to the unique sound of granular ensemble.
Sweeper Modulation Effect: Add more color with this high quality, multi-talented phaser, flanger and filter unit with expansive dynamic modulation options.
Master Bus Compressor: Reason’s trusted ready-for-radio bus compressor can now be applied anywhere in the rack.
Channel Dynamics: Use the subtle compressor, expander and gate from Reason’s studio-grade mixer anywhere in your signal chain
Channel EQ: The legendary modeled EQ unit featured in countless platinum recordings is now its own rack device.
Scenic Hybrid Instrument: A cinematic dream machine of atmospheric sounds, textures and powerful performance controls.
As usual the upgrade options are good and existing Reason owners can get Reason Suite for just £229 – incredible value!

The second upgrade for me this week is Applied Acoustics Systems’ brilliant synth plugin Ultra Analog which is now Ultra Analog VA-3.
I’ve had great fun with this “two-voice two-oscillator-bi-filter-plus-effects analog synthesizer” all week and the good news for me was that as the owner of the VA-2 Sessions version that I got free (or very cheap) from PlugInBoutique – the upgrade was only £36.95 – a saving of £113 off the RRP.
Even if you don’t own a previous version, you can still save £38 off the RRP for a limited period here: Ultra Analog VA-3
